Prince William and Princess Kate spent the morning visiting the National Federation of Women’s Institute (WI) in Sunningdale to commemorate the three-year anniversary of the death of Her Late Majesty Queen Elizabeth II.
The WI, one of the largest women’s organisation in the UK, holds a special connection to Her Late Majesty as she was a member for 80 years, joining in 1943 and served as President of the Sandringham WI from 2003 until her death in 2022. The Prince and Princess spent 45 minutes with ladies from the WI sharing special memories of the late Queen on the third anniversary of her death.
Wearing a grey tartan dress with puffed sleeves, Kate remarked how “lovely” the weather was as they arrived at the local branch. “What a lovely day,” she said, as she gestured towards the beaming sunshine.
During their visit, Kate and William heard about the work of the WI and how it gives opportunities for women to socialise, learn new skills and engage in community projects.
The Late Queen was an active member of the WI and would regularly attend the New Year meeting in January. In 2022 she also hosted a reception at Sandringham House for volunteer groups, pensioners and fellow members of the WI group, to mark her Platinum Jubilee.
