Prince Louis could inherit royal title from controversial royal if tradition is followed

He is officially known as His Royal Highness Prince Louis of Wales, but his title could end up changing once he becomes an adult, to a royal title already held by a controversial family member.

It is possible that Prince Louis, five, could be given Prince Andrew’s title one day owing to a historic tradition and falling in line with more than a century of royal tradition.

When the young Prince marries, he would be in line to inherit a historic Dukedom and he could one day be the Duke of York, a title currently held by Prince Andrew.

However, the catch is that the title would be unavailable for Prince Louis if Prince Andrew was still alive when he chose to marry, as reported in the Mirror.

Much in the same way that his father was made the Duke of Cambridge and his uncle Prince Harry was made the Duke of Sussex on his wedding day, Prince Louis could also inherit a title.

Also, traditionally, the Duke of York title has been given to the monarch’s second-eldest son, so if Prince William is on the throne and it is vacant, the top title could be passed on.

Prince Andrew was awarded the title of Duke of York on July 23, 1986, by his mother, Queen Elizabeth II, upon his marriage to Sarah Ferguson.

The title also has sentimental links with the late Queen. King George VI, Queen Elizabeth’s father, held the title before becoming king.

Today, the Duke of York title is primarily a royal peerage title and is a prestigious title within the British peerage system, showing the Royal Family’s historical ties and traditions.

Princess Charlotte, eight, is also set for a change – upon her father’s accession and death of Princess Anne, Charlotte will be eligible to become the next Princess Royal.

This title is traditionally given to the eldest daughter of the monarch and is the highest honour that can be bestowed upon a female member of the Royal Family.

It turns out Louis only became a prince when he was born thanks to his great-grandmother the late Queen. This is because she intervened to overwrite a rule put in place by King George V. In 1917, where he set out new guidance on which royals were allowed to have titles – and who was too far down the line of succession to qualify for one.

The Queen stepped in and decided to extend the change and overturn the rule, meaning when Prince Louis was born, he automatically held a title of a Prince.

Prince Louis was born at St Mary’s Hospital in London on April, 23, 2018.
