The mayor said: “The gentleman said, ‘what I’d really like is a donut.’ (Prince Harry) says, ‘there’s no donut here, but I will find one.’
“He takes off, and 10 minutes later, he returns with a doughnut. The gentleman looks up and says, ‘I guess I need my cards and my sugar.’
“That gentleman tonight is at the Convention Center and does not know it was Prince Harry who brought him that doughnut.”
He added: “He[the elderly man] did tell Prince Harry, ‘if you ever run for anything, I’ll vote for you.’”
It is believed the Sussexes, who live in Montecito, some 90 miles from Los Angeles, have donated clothing, children’s items and other essential supplies for people affected by the fires. They are also understood to have invited friends and loved ones who had been forced to evacuate into their homes. Royal fans were deeply touched by the duke’s compassionate act and took to social media to praise him.
One user wrote on X: “True kindness! Prince Harry showing up and doing good without recognition.”
Another person added: “That is human connection, compassion in Prince Harry’s heart to do this for the man.”
A third fan said: “God Bless that elderly man, and God Bless Prince Harry…he really is a true Prince, like right out of a Fairytale. His Mom, Princess Lady Diana would be very proud of him….he has a heart of gold, just like his Mom.. he truly is The ‘ peoples Prince’.”
A fourth one agreed: “Princess Diana and Harry are cut from the same cloth.”
A fifth one said: “I’m not surprised at the generosity exhibited by the son of Diana Princess of Wales. Apples don’t fall far from their trees.”
