Prince Harry’s eyebrow-raising 11-word response about royal return | Royal | News

Prince Harry had a surprising 11-word response for a TV show host who quizzed him on whether a return to the Royal Family is in his future.

The Duke of Sussex stepped down from royal duties in 2020 with Meghan Markle, eventually prompting a move from the UK to Montecito, California, where they still live.

Since then, speculation has been rife as to whether the couple will once again take up their royal duties, and the prince took the opportunity to share his thoughts on the matter.

While promoting his January 2023 memoir Spare, he appeared on US talk show Good Morning America, where he was grilled on a potential royal return.

Host Michael Strahan asked Harry if he and Meghan would ever take up their jobs as working royals again, and he gave a very telling answer.

Prince Harry immeditately replied with: “No. I don’t think it is ever going to be possible.”

He continued: “Even if there is an agreement, or an arrangement between me and my family, there is that third party that is going to do everything they can to make sure that isn’t possible. Not stopping us going back, but making it unsurvivable.”

His brother Prince William is also reportedly sceptical about a return for Harry, going so far as to block any attempt at one, according to sources close to him.

The source said: “Whatever has been discussed between William and the King is private, but it is absolutely and categorically clear that he [William] would not allow Harry to return.

“He thought it was a bad idea at the time and he’s even more clear now. If anyone is going to take on more duties it will be William and that isn’t even on the agenda for now.

“His main focus is on his father’s health, his family and what is best for the monarchy. There is a zero per cent chance Harry is coming back in any capacity.”

Other sources have claimed Prince Harry will not even be allowed a temporary role in King Charles’ slimmed-down monarchy due to the arrangement he agreed to when leaving in 2020.

One told The Telegraph: “Those terms were quite clear, and the King’s illness hasn’t altered that.” Another told the outlet that the view a hybrid model of being a working royal was not appropriate still “remains the case”.
