Prince Harry is reportedly determined to “stay the victim” as one expert speaks out on the ongoing royal feud. The Duke of Sussex has often been called out for his decision to play “the victim” – with the former working royal now no longer on speaking terms with King Charles.
Speaking to HELLO!, conflict expert Julie Cobalt suggests that she believes Harry will continue riding the wave of playing the “victim” – before sharing that he will likely see it as the “easier” option.
She said: “Public sharing can feel like control and clarity, but it often replaces resolution with reinforcement… It’s much easier to stay in the role of victim than to look inward and explore your own contribution to the problem.”
In a recent interview with the BBC, which took place after losing his appeal to reinstate police protection when visiting the UK, Harry spoke of his desire to reconcile with the Royal Family.
Speaking to Nada Tawfik, he said: “I would love reconciliation with my family. There’s no point continuing to fight any more, life is precious.”
Discussing Harry’s desire, Ms Cobalt said that Harry may need to make the decision to understand rather than blame.
She said: “Breaking the cycle of blame doesn’t mean ignoring your feelings. It means being willing to see the other person’s perspective, even when it’s hard.”
She also suggested that he should try to attempt reconnecting away from the spotlight.
The expert added: “If you want resolution, you have to be willing to trade the spotlight for sincerity.”
The Duke, 40, and Duchess of Sussex, 43, stepped away from royal duties in 2020, before moving to the US with their now-six-year-old son Prince Archie. The couple later welcomed their daughter Princess Lilibet, now aged three, in June 2021.
