Prince Harry has previously said that he fears for his family’s safety in the UK but, according to one royal expert, there is more to the Duke’s reasoning for his ongoing security battle. The Duke, 40, travelled to the UK earlier this month to attend the Court of Appeal hearing into his security arrangements in the UK on April 8 and 9.
Harry lost his government-funded protection in the UK in February 2020 after announcing plans to step back as a senior working royal the previous month. Alongside Meghan Markle and their young son, Harry later moved to the US. Despite previously claiming that the reason behind his security battle is for his wife and children to feel safe in his home country, former BBC royal correspondent Jennie Bond said that she believes there is another reason motivating him to keep going ahead with his battle for security in the UK.
She told the Mirror: “I think Harry is sincere when he says he wants his children to know and understand their heritage. And he has said publicly that he wants his father and his brother back in his life.
“But we now also know that this issue of security is like a red rag to a bull for Harry. He says it is more important than any of his other legal battles.”
She added that she believes it is down to Harry proving a point and that he has “deep-rooted sense of injustice” about how he was treated prior to his move to the US.
Ms Bond added: “He has a deep-rooted sense of injustice – he believes there was some kind of conspiracy to keep him ‘trapped’ within the Royal Family and to prevent him and his family from leaving the UK. And he seems intent on proving that to be the case.”
She also added: “So I don’t think it really is about a burning desire to bring his children and wife to the UK. It is more about his anger at the way he believes he was treated.”
Since their move to California, Harry and Meghan welcomed their second child in June 2021 – a daughter whom they named Princess Lilibet.
The family now live in a multi-million-pound home in Montecito.
