Today is set to be an emotional day for members of the Royal Family, marking three years since the death of the late Queen Elizabeth II. Members of the family will no doubt be privately reflecting on their fond memories of the late Queen today, with Prince Harry – who is in the UK for the 2025 Wellchild Awards – being one of them.
The Duke of Sussex, 40, suggested in his 2023 memoir Spare that the day of her death was distressing for many reasons. With Harry and his wife Meghan Markle being in the UK at the time when the late monarch passed away, the prince was able to fly up to Scotland where Elizabeth II was shortly on September 8. However, Harry failed to reach Balmoral Castle in time to say goodbye to his grandmother. Moreover, it is also believed he had some tense words with his father King Charles – who was Prince of Wales at the time – about Meghan.
While Meghan may not have flown to Balmoral with her husband on the day of the late Queen’s death, she did attend the funeral service with the rest of the Royal Family.
This was her last public appearance in the UK, with the duchess believed to have not stepped foot in her husband’s home country since.
Instead, Meghan opts to stay at the family’s home in Montecito, California, when her husband visits the UK.
