Prince Harry had an adorable reaction after Team Australia athlete competing in the Invictus Games in Canada presented him with a personalised gift.
The Duke of Sussex was on stage addressing the crowd in Whistler as the competition he founded for wounded, injured and sick service personnel and veterans incorporates winter for the first time when something caught his eye.
During the Prince’s remarks, Belinda Culley, who is competing in indoor rowing, Nordic skiing, sitting volleyball and swimming at this year’s Games, was spotted by the royal as she waved the present from behind a security barrier.
The Duke, 40, and approached to meet Squadron Leader Culley, who gave him a jar of Vegemite, an Aussie staple, with a “Prince Harry” label.
Phone camera footage shared by 7 News Adeleide showed Harry’s wife Meghan Markle, 43, joining them and beaming as she hugged the Aussie.
Squadron Leader Culley, who suffered a serious back injury that required major spinal fusion surgery in 2023, said she was keen to show what the games meant to her and her teammates.
“I had the honour and privilege of meeting Prince Harry today,” she said, as per an Australian Government press release.
“My teammate Cindy came up with the idea of creating a Vegemite jar with Prince Harry’s name on it, and I was fortunate enough to give it to him on behalf of the Australian Team as a token of our appreciation.”
Squadron Leader Culley described the Duke as gracious and down-to-earth, and said he inquired about the events she was competing in.
