Prince Harry used 'subtle military trick' as he rallies support in new video

Prince Harry used a “subtle” military-style delivery in a new video asking people to nominate candidates for the 2024 WellChild awards, according to a body language expert.

Judi James, a leading communications expert, suggested the Duke of Sussex may have made use of his military training as he rallied the public to support the children’s charity.

“Biting at his words and performing small lip-clamp gestures as non-verbal punctuation, Harry delivers his message using a subtly military-style of delivery here in a bid to recruit help from the viewers,” James told the Daily Express US.

“He bounces up and down onto his toes and his body bristles to suggest energy and upbeat authority.

“His chin is raised and his brows are steepled and his head cocks from side to side as he speaks.

The body language guru said the air of authority was further emphasised by him pointing directly towards the camera to address his audience with the word “you”.

The Duke previously served in the Army for 10 years, rising to the rank of Captain and undertaking two tours of Afghanistan.

The video featuring the US-based royal was posted to the WellChild’s account on X, formerly Twitter, on Wednesday, in which he paid tribute to Britain’s inspirational seriously-ill children.

The national UK children’s charity works to enable children and young people with exceptional health needs to receive care at home instead of hospital.

“The WellChild awards is our chance to celebrate the extraordinary strength and spirit of young people with complex medical conditions from across the United Kingdom,” the Prince said in the video.

“It allows us to shine a spotlight on the resilience and positivity that they demonstrate every single day and to recognize the incredible support from the families and friends and professionals around them.

“It is such a privilege to honour the immense courage and compassion of this incredible community but to do that we need you to take a moment and nominate the remarkable individuals who inspire you.”

He added: “Your involvement makes a huge difference so please join us in celebrating the amazing superstars to be recognized in the 2024 WellChild awards.”

Harry has been a patron of the charity for 16 years.

He attended the WellChild Awards at the Hurlingham Club in London last September, after having missing the ceremony the year before as it fell on the same day his grandmother Queen Elizabeth II died.

At the event, he paid tribute to the late Monarch, saying “as you also probably know, she would have been the first person to insist that I still come to be with you all instead of going to her”.

He said: “And that’s precisely why I know, exactly one year on, she is looking down on all of us tonight, happy we’re together continuing to spotlight such an incredible community.”

Wednesday’s video was released just hours after the Prince lost his High Court challenge against the Home Office over a decision to change the level of his personal security when he visits the UK.

The duke is to seek to appeal against the ruling, his lawyers have announced.
