A Grammy nominated star will be headlining at the opening night of the Invictus Games – and she just so happens to be Prince Harry and Meghan’s neighbour.

Katy Perry will be singing at the opening of the event in February, the biggest star to feature yet.

The 40-year-old will appear at the bi-annual event, created by the Duke of Sussex as an event for disabled military veterans.

The renowned pop-star and her partner, British actor Orland Bloom, live close to Harry and Meghan in Montecito, California.

The two couples have seen their friendship blossom since becoming neighbours, with Perry and Bloom attending the third birthday party of Lilibet, the Sussex’s daughter, at their £20 million home.

Last year, Harry and Meghan were also seen at the ‘Fireworks’ concert in Las Vegas, sat in the VIP section, which highlights the bond between the singer and couple.

The announcement of Perry’s feature at the event was posted on the Invictus Games Vancouver Whistler X account, a social media platform.

It says: “Buckle up because we’re beyond excited to announce that the one and only, Multi-Platinum Global Pop Superstar, @katyperry will be joining GRAMMY-Award Nominated, Multi-Platinum Artist @NoahKahan, Multi-Talented Musician and Songwriter @NellyFurtado for a truly epic Opening Ceremony, with one more Global Superstar to come.

“Known for her iconic hits like Roar, Firework, and Dark Horse, experience these goosebump worthy moments IRL!”

Excited fans have been quick to respond, replying to the post saying: “Fantastic! I’ve got my tickets for the opening ceremonies,” with another user posting “Oh my god this is absolutely amazing”.

Harry and Meghan will be going to the event, being the first major occasion that they have attended together since reports emerged they were going their separate ways in engagements.

The Invictus Games is a week-long event where athletes from over 30 countries will make appearances. The Duke of Sussex will deliver an opening speech to welcome everyone, as usual, with Meghan set to take the stage for the closing remarks.

This will be the third games that the couple have attended together having previously shown up to Holland and Germany. This year, the event is being held in Vancouver and the ski resort of Whistler.

Harry has been actively promoting the games, using an appearance at a Canadian football match last month to speak about the need for “family healing”.
