Prince Harry suffers ‘pangs of exile’ as Trump snubs him in speech | Royal | News

Prince Harry is feeling “the pangs of exile” after US President Donald Trump snubbed him in a speech made in front of the Royal Family, an expert has claimed. The US President was hosted by King Charles, 76, and Queen Camilla, 78, at Windsor Castle earlier this week for a state visit.

While Trump is known to be a massive fan of the Royal Family, it is believed he dislikes Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, who quit royal life in 2020 and moved to America, where they then spent years criticising the monarchy. This dislike was hinted at during the president’s speech on Wednesday at the state banquet.

In a speech made in front of the royals, Mr Trump said: “I just want to say that His Majesty has also raised a remarkable son in His Royal Highness, Prince of Wales. Really amazing. We’ve gotten to know you and I think you’re going to have unbelievable success in the future.”

By only referring to the King’s eldest son and heir-to-the-throne Prince William, and failing to mention the monarch’s younger son Prince Harry, this has been widely interpreted as a snub to Harry.

While Harry has not addressed this, royal expert Richard Fitzwilliams told Express.co.uk that the lack of a mention, even though it would not be unexpected, would have made Harry feel the “pangs of exile”.

This is despite the fact Harry, 41, is believed to be slowly starting to heal some of the rifts he has experienced with his royal relatives, including with his father who he met up with last week for the first time since February 2024.

Mr Fitzwilliams said: “Given the royal rift, which has been caused by Harry and Meghan’s destructive behaviour, they should not have been surprised that Harry did not receive a mention in President Trump’s speech.”

He continued: “Yet the phrasing was illuminating. When addressing King Charles, he talked of Prince William as his “remarkable son”, omitting any mention of Harry.

“Under the circumstances, Harry would not have expected a mention, but the clear implication here was that the King only has one son and certainly only one who was remarkable. Harry must be feeling the pangs of exile.”

When Mr Trump mentioned Prince William, the King could be seen smiling proudly at his eldest son, with many royal fans noticing the moment. One fan wrote on X: “King Charles looked straight at his dutiful son across the table with such a loving look. He is a very proud father.”

Another said: “I see a proud monarch and father!”
