Prince Harry 'regretted' bombshell statement as he and Meghan Markle quit Royal roles

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle immediately “regretted” announcing their decision to step down from their institutional roles without consulting with the Queen, it has been claimed.

This announcement, made in 2020, sent shockwaves around the globe and reportedly caught some members of the Royal Family off guard.

The late Queen called an urgent family meeting, now known as the Sandringham Summit, to discuss the situation.

Following the meeting, Elizabeth II issued a rare statement saying: “Harry, Meghan and Archie will always be much-loved members of my family.”

She also acknowledged the difficulties they had faced due to intense public scrutiny and supported their desire for a more independent life.

However, according to The Telegraph, Harry regretted how he had “blindsided” his grandmother with the announcement.

A source said at the time: “I don’t think he fully appreciated the impact the statement would have in terms of them not consulting the Queen. He regrets that.”

In the four years since the Sussexes dramatically left their roles as working royals, the last year has certainly been the most eventful.

Harry released his controversial memoir Spare; they were dropped from their multi-million dollar Spotify deal; the prince’s Invictus Games in Germany was a huge success and rumours buzzed about Meghan possibly restarting her lifestyle blog, The Tig.

But as we head into 2024, experts say there is only one way forward for the couple, who were brutally branded losers by The Hollywood Reporter.
