Prince Harry recalled a moment when he once “lost control” when trying to defend Prince William. Writing in his bombshell memoir Spare, Harry, 40, shared an old memory when the once-close brothers would have visits to King Charles’ friends’ home during the summer.
The Duke of Sussex, who released Spare in January 2023, wrote that the pair had four sons, who he said were “thrown together” with “Willy and I”. Harry penned: “We often went to visit them for a week or two, during school holidays and summers. They had four sons with whom Willy and I were always thrown together, like pups into a bunch of pit bulls.” Recalling how fighting was usually on the agenda, he then added: “Hair-pulling, eye-gouging, arm-twisting, sleeper holds, all was fair in love and war and at Hugh and Emilie’s country house.”
Recalling how he used to defend his brother, he added: “I’d hear him crying out for help and down would come the red mist, like a blood vessel bursting behind my eyes.
“I’d lose all control, all ability to focus on anything but family, country, tribe, and hurl myself at someone, everyone.”
Harry and William have been at loggerheads for some time, with the royal even recalling a fight he once had with his brother over Meghan Markle.
According to Harry, William, 43, referred to his wife as “difficult”, “rude” and “abrasive”.
Recalling how the confrontation escalated, Harry wrote that William then “grabbed me by the collar, ripping my necklace, and… knocked me to the floor”.
Harry then added: “I landed on the dog’s bowl, which cracked under my back, the pieces cutting into me.
“I lay there for a moment, dazed, then got to my feet and told him to get out.”
