Prince Harry may not be a fan of lobster, as his wife, Meghan Markle, revealed in the trailer of her Netflix show, but he is a big fan of another treat, and you can’t find it in the UK. The Duke of Sussex is known to love various dishes, but there is one dessert that he absolutely loves.
The “comfort food” in question is banana ice cream, which is not sold in UK supermarkets but is abundant in the US. Former royal chef Darren McGrady has previously revealed Prince Harry and Prince William’s desserts.
He told Hello! magazine: “They liked comfort food dishes.
“They loved banana flan, anything with banana really, banana ice cream.”
According to the outlet, Harry’s craving is also affordable, as it costs no more than $5 (£3,70) in the States.
Now, a food expert said that the Duke’s favourite ice cream flavour is not just about his sweet tooth.
Renae Smith, food consultant and former MasterChef contestant, told the outlet: “While most countries tend to favour the classics, vanilla, chocolate, cookies and cream, banana has a bit more presence in the US, especially in retro shops and diners. While Harry’s not American by birth, we often find comfort in the flavours that remind us of childhood.
“From what we know, Princess Diana leaned towards fruit-based desserts, so it makes perfect sense that something like banana ice cream would trigger that nostalgic part of his brain.
“Banana is actually a flavour many of us grow out of, but for someone like Harry, who’s spoken openly about grief, memory, and connection, I wouldn’t be surprised if he still craves that link to the past.”
Ms Smith added that we can give banana a healthier take too by blending frozen bananas with honey or maple syrip and no dairy or added sugar, to make an ice-cream like dessert.
She said: “Whether he’s going old-school or taking the wellness route, banana’s a flavour that clearly still resonates with him.”
