A resurfaced clip of Prince Harry explaining why Meghan Markle is different to others marrying into the Royal Family has gone viral, attracting thousands of views on the platform TikTok.
In the footage, Harry is being interviewed by ABC’s Michael Strahan in the run-up to the publication of his book Spare, in January 2023. The video has recirculated following the paperback release of Spare, which hit shelves in UK bookshops on October 24.
The Duke of Sussex explained because Meghan already had fans and people that knew who she was, prior to marrying him, he claimed it made it harder for the media to mould her image.
Prince Harry says: “She had a very public career of which millions of people knew who she was because they’d been following her but this time fans and people that knew Meghan were pushing back and saying that’s categorically false. You can’t say that based on the fact we know who she is.”
The footage was posted alongside a caption, which read: “It’s how Prince Harry has never held back from reminding people that unlike other women who married into the royal family with ‘a blank slate’ Meghan had her own successful life, a career, had her own money, had created her own path in the world…”
Meghan had already established herself as a TV actor on the show ‘Suits’ when she met Harry in 2016, around the time season six of the show was first broadcast that summer.
The video gained over 75K views and has over 100 likes. Fans have been quick to comment on Harry’s interview. One wrote: “They truly love each other. A true love match. #LoveWins!”
Another said: “God bless Harry and Megan.”
Meghan Markle began dating Harry back in 2016, with the pair tying the knot just two years later. The couple have now been married for six years and share two children together – five-year-old Prince Archie and three-year-old Princess Lilibet.
Speaking of the moment Meghan told her that she was “going out with” the royal, Doria said: “When she told me, we’re on the phone and she says, ‘Mummy I’m going out with Prince Harry’. I started whispering ‘Oh my god!'”
In his bombshell memoir Spare, Harry revealed that he first met Doria in London and the trio went for a drink at their “favourite place” in Soho.
During their engagement interview in late 2017, Harry gave fans an insight into the early days of dating Meghan. The royal said: “We met for a drink, and then I think very quickly into that we said, ‘Well, what are we doing tomorrow? We should meet again.”
However, speaking in the couple’s bombshell Netflix series in 2022, Meghan claimed that the interview was like a “reality show”.
Interviewer Mishal Husain who conducted the interview, previously spoke out about Meghan’s comments in 2022 with her saying: “We know recollections may vary on this particular subject, but my recollection is definitely very much ‘asked to do an interview, and do said interview.”
