Prince Harry facing a case 'he can't win' as visa row intensifies amid US election

A renowned royal expert has weighed in on Prince Harry’s recent security offer and the ongoing controversy surrounding his visa application.

Royal expert Richard Fitzwilliams Fitzwilliams expressed scepticism about Prince Harry’s attempt to fund his security during visits to the UK.

He told the Daily Express: “Prince Harry could not have expected to win when he offered to pay for security on his trips to the UK. It is not something that a wealthy individual should be able to purchase.”

The decision by Ravec, the body responsible for royal security, to uphold their stance on Prince Harry’s security arrangements was anticipated, according to Fitzwilliams.

He added: “It was always likely that the decision by the body that looks after royal security, Ravec, regarding his security, would be upheld as it now has been.”

The matter of Prince Harry’s visa application, which enabled his entry into the United States, has also sparked controversy.

Fitzwilliams highlighted the ongoing legal battle initiated by the Conservative Heritage Foundation to make the visa application public. “An extraordinary argument has been put forward by lawyers for the Biden administration,” he noted.

Fitzwilliams drew attention to revelations from Prince Harry’s memoir, Spare, where the prince admitted to drug use. However, he pointed out a twist in the narrative: “In his defence, it is now argued that this might nonetheless not be true!”

The potential implications of a return to power by former President Donald Trump were also raised. Fitzwilliams speculated: “If Donald Trump reentered the White House, he might find a very different attitude is taken by the federal authorities.”

He suggested that tensions between Trump and the Sussexes could intensify, affecting Prince Harry’s visa status and pondered the impact of recent developments on Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s public image.

He remarked: “In the event of him being re-elected, if he were to make life difficult for Harry over the visa issue, it might paradoxically increase his popularity and that of Meghan in Hollywood.”

The couple’s financial arrangements, particularly their ties with Netflix, were also scrutinized, as Fitzwilliams touched on the couple’s recent rebrand.

He said: “The recent relaunch of their website was conspicuous for omitting any mention of Netflix, yet their contract with it is their major source of funds.”

Despite their Hollywood connections, Fitzwilliams noted that Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s popularity “is low” in America and the UK.

Looking ahead, Fitzwilliams reflected on Prince Harry’s upcoming commitments: “He has the 10th anniversary of Invictus to look forward to but, one wonders, what else?”
