Prince Harry and Meghan's 'silence' on key topics is serving them well, says PR expert

Meghan Markle and Prince Harry don’t seem sure about the future of their big money deal with Netflix, as time is running out for it to be extended. But despite this, they have been praised for staying “silent” on certain issues.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex signed a five-year contract with the streaming giant after they left the Royal Family. This profitable partnership is set to finish next year and it is not known yet whether or not it will be extended.

PR expert Ryan McCormick said the couple don’t seem “overly confident that it will last” after they didn’t mention their Netflix deal on their new website for Archewell Productions. In fact, Meghan and Harry also didn’t mention Meghan’s brand new podcast deal with Lemonada.

A message on their site simply says: “At Archewell Productions, we believe that stories have the power to unite and inspire audiences around the globe. Founded in 2020 by Prince Harry and Meghan, The Duke and Duchess of Sussex, our company is dedicated to illuminating thought-provoking and diverse narratives that underscore our common humanity and celebrate community.”

Harry and Meghan are busy creating “scripted and non-scripted TV, film, documentaries, and podcasting,” but they haven’t shared any details. Mr McCormick told the Mirror: “Why Meghan and Harry haven’t discussed their Netflix deal could be for a number of reasons.”

“One of them is that they may not be legally permitted to do so. If that’s not the case, the duo may be cautious about discussing the arrangement because they’re not overly confident that it will last.”

Meghan and Harry have faced backlash for their Netflix partnership after releasing a shocking documentary which included several attacks on the Royal Family. The expert added: “For all the criticism that The Duchess and Duke have received, I think their silence on certain matters is serving them both very well recently.”

Despite rumours that Netflix might end Meghan and Harry’s costly partnership, one of the streaming giant’s top bosses recently revealed the Sussexes have more projects coming up. At a February event to announce future projects, Netflix Chief Content Officer Bela Bajaria hinted: “Oh, what are they working on. They actually have a bunch in development.”

She continued: “They have a couple of unscripted things they’re working on with Brandon [Reigg]. And they actually have like a bunch of development, they have a movie in development, a [scripted] series that they’re working on.”

Bela highlighted that the projects are “all in very early development”. She was also eager and thrilled by the film, saying that the “movie’s great”.

While she didn’t provide further information, these “unscripted” works are believed to be documentaries.
