The idea of Prince Harry returning to the UK to assist with royal duties in King Charles’s time of need has been categorically dismissed.
According to royal expert Rebecca English, who addressed the topic on the Daily Mail’s talk show, Palace Confidential, there is “not a hope in hell” of this becoming a reality.
This came after speculations suggesting Prince Harry’s openness to rejoining the royal framework as his father, King Charles, faces health concerns.
On Palace Confidential, English was asked about the potential of Harry stepping back into royal duties and supporting the family during challenging times, given both the King and the Princess of Wales reportedly facing health setbacks. She replied: “Not a hope in hell, simply.”
She explained that the suggestion, initially reported by The Times, seemed to stem from Harry’s camp, which reportedly conveyed his willingness to assist.
“I would imagine it was heavily briefed by Harry’s side,” English said, expressing scepticism toward the claims and emphasising that such a sentiment was not reflected within the Palace’s current perspective.
She added: “It was effectively saying he would be keen to come back into the frame to undertake more royal duties while his father was ill…and, obviously, the Princess of Wales is not well either.”
However, English clarified that after reaching out to her sources within the royal circles, she was informed that there had been no discussions—formal or informal—concerning Prince Harry’s return.
“I made some calls and was told almost immediately, ‘absolutely not,’” she recounted, confirming that any such speculation held no substance within royal circles.
The suggestion of Prince Harry returning to the UK for royal duties surfaces amid heightened public focus on the health and roles of senior royals.
Prince Harry and Meghan Markle stepped back from royal duties in 2020 and subsequently moved to California, a decision that led to a much-publicized royal exit and complex family dynamics.
Since their departure, the Sussexes have engaged in a variety of media ventures and advocacy efforts but have maintained their distance from official royal responsibilities.
