Prince Harry and Meghan Markle 'to remain silent' on Lilibet name row due to key reason

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have been criticised for their decision to remain silent after it emerged that the late Queen was “angry” that they used her personal nickname for their young daughter.

Writing in his new book ‘Charles III: New King. New Court. The Inside Story’, author Robert Hardman discussed the late Queen’s true feelings after Meghan and Harry named their daughter Lilibet.

Princess Lilibet, now two, was born in California in June 2021 and is the couple’s second child.

Lilibet was the late Queen’s sweet nickname that stuck after she couldn’t pronounce Elizabeth as a young child. The childhood name was also affectionately used by her late husband Prince Philip.

Speaking to Express.co.uk, royal expert Richard Fitzwilliams said that he believes that the couple will not speak out about the name row.

The couple previously stated that they had asked the late monarch if they could use the name for their daughter – in her honour.

However, it later emerged that they had not spoken to the late monarch about their wishes.

Mr Fitzwilliams said: “They are highly unlikely to comment on any of this. However, as with the fiasco over Omid Scobie’s attack on the monarchy in his ill-fated book, Endgame, their silence will speak for itself as Hardman’s revelations have shown them to be both calculating and deeply selfish.”

The expert also explores how the latest comments on the Queen’s feelings towards Princess Lilibet’s name would likely have been received by Meghan and Harry.

He said: [Robert Hardman’s] revelations about what really happened during the Queen’s last hours and also how the Sussexes handled their use of the Queen’s childhood nickname Lilibet for their daughter, whilst claiming the Queen was “supportive” will not have been popular in Montecito.”

Speaking out in defence of Meghan, Dr Shola Mos-Shogbaminu recently claimed that Meghan “did not need anyone’s permission” for what she chose to name her own daughter.

Taking to X, she wrote: “God give me strength – people have lost their minds. [1] Harry and Meghan do not need anyone’s permission, least of all Queen Elizabeth, to name their child Lilibet…”

According to Mr Hardman’s book, a source claimed that the late Queen was “as angry as I’d ever seen her” when she found out that couple had claimed that they has spoken to her prior to naming Lilibet.

They claimed that they had got the late monarch’s blessing and, according to The Mail, stated that they would not have used the name if she had not been “supportive”.

Meghan and Harry also have a son named Prince Archie. The four-year-old was born in UK in 2019.
