Prince Harry and Meghan LIVE: Duchess warned one move could 'backfire' after announcement

Meghan Markle has been warned against one move that could “backfire” while speaking on stage at an event during the American festival South by Southwest (SXSW) later this week.

The Duchess of Sussex was invited to the major music and arts festival as a keynote speaker alongside feminist icons including journalist Kaite Couric and actress Brooke Shields.

But royal expert Katie Nicholl warned Meghan that using her platform to speak about the Royal Family could “backfire” on the Duchess.

She said: “If she is going to use that platform for anything other than it is intended for – to make any slights or comments or even if she was deemed to be talking out of turn – I think that would backfire on her quite badly.”

Speaking on TalkTV’s Heirs and Spares, she continued: “When you consider some of the interviews that Harry’s given where he’s talked about his father’s health or updates about his relationship with his family while it makes headlines, ultimately, it always ends up damaging that relationship which some family members are trying quite hard to reconcile.”

In addition, the announcement of Meghan’s inclusion in the SXSW panel did not go down well with fans. Some lashed out at the Duchess, claiming they would miss the event because she was included.
