Prince George has a fondness for an Italian culinary favourite that’s led to charming kitchen moments with his mother Princess Kate and sister Princess Charlotte.
Celebrity chef Aldo Zilli has spilt the beans on Prince George’s preferred dish during a meeting with their father, Prince William, who let slip the young heir’s top choice for dinner.
He previously told Femail: “[William’s] amazing – I’m waiting for the call because apparently his little boy’s favourite is spaghetti carbonara, so I’m waiting for the call to go and cook it for him.
“[William] is an absolute gent. He’ll come over to you, speak to you about – he knows everything about everyone.
“That’s what I like about people like that, before they come over to you they make sure they know who you are and what you do for a living, it’s a very intelligent thing to do. He’s such a great, great guy, I’m a big fan of the Royal Family.”
Zilli also expressed his eagerness to cater to the prince’s palate directly, as he cheekily said: “If George has my carbonara, he will never have another one, so I need to go and make it, let’s get the ball rolling, send me to the palace to cook.”
Prince George prefers the classic spaghetti carbonara, but he’s not limited to just one type of pasta dish, as the Princess of Wales previously shared that he and his sister, Princess Charlotte, have taken part in cooking a homemade “cheesy pasta” together.
In February 2019, Princess Kate disclosed to Matthew Kleiner-Mann of Ivy Learning Trust that her children “love cooking” and help each other to cook dinner.
He said: “She was telling us how much her children love cooking and how they cook for her. They made cheesy pasta the other day. One stirs the flour, one puts the milk and butter in. And they make salads and stuff.”
At Luke’s Community Centre close to Knotty Ash, Liverpool, Kate recounted how she’d been hands-on with George and Charlotte in the kitchen: “I’ve done that with George and Charlotte – making pizza dough. They love it because they can get their hands messy.”
The young royals have a surprisingly normal palate, with Princess Charlotte also having a penchant for Italian cuisine, just like her elder brother, as well as for curry.
During a visit to Prince Shah Karim Al Hussaini, Aga Khan IV, ahead of their 2019 Pakistan tour, Princess Kate revealed that she often cooks curry at home, although she makes it less spicy for the children.
However, she noted: “Charlotte is pretty good with heat”. The then-Duchess of Cambridge also mentioned that Charlotte enjoys olives as a snack.
Prince Louis shares his siblings’ taste for curry, but has a particular fondness for beetroot and other vegetables.
Kate disclosed on a Mary Berry Christmas TV special in 2019 that her younger son adores beetroot, saying: “We’ve got carrots, beans, beetroot a massive favourite Louis absolutely loves beetroot.”
