Prince Edward raises eyebrows during Badminton rally against sporty wife Duchess Sophie


Prince Edward and his wife Sophie had fun today showing off their racquet skills on the badminton court.

The Duke and Duchess of Edinburgh attended the Yonex All England Badminton Championships to celebrate 125 years of the sport today in Birmingham. And although fans loved seeing the pair – some questioned their choice of outfits.

@according2_taz said: “I’m loving these two doing engagements together!!!!!!”

Another Sophie and Edward fan – @Mari_Edinburghs – agreed, saying: “So am I, Taz!! And giving you a spoiler, they will have another joint one next week”

But others had a giggle at what the pair were wearing to play the sport.

Royal fans thought it was great the Duke and Duchess were having a go at badminton – but some have questioned their attire.

“#Photogate  who plays Badminton in a suit? I’d like to see the original,” said @LaserMike on social media platform X.

Another user agreed saying that sportswear would have been more appropriate for the outing.

@XtineNgugi said: “Why not wear appropriate sports attire?”

Duchess Sophie on the badminton court

Duchess Sophie used all of her on court skills to return the shuttlecock on the badminton court.

She’s known for her love of sports, especially skiing as before marrying Prince Edward, the royal did a season as a ski rep in the Swiss resort of Crans-Montana.

The Duchess has recently been dubbed the Royal Family’s “mainstay” and “indispensable” to King Charles.

She has been long praised as one of the Firm’s “secret weapons” due to her close relationship with the other royals and her overall affection by the British public.
