Prince Edward has left Britain for the third time this year already, to carry out another high-profile trip.
The royal’s three-day visit to India, which runs between February 2 and February 4, aims to celebrate the shared ties between the UK and the country.
According to GB News, Edward’s visit will focus on championing young people and promoting the benefits of non-formal education.
The Duke of Edinburgh will travel to both Mumbai and Delhi during his trip. During the visit, he will engage with various educational and cultural initiatives.
The 60-year-old will use the visit to promote The Duke of Edinburgh’s International Award, which is known in India as The International Award for Young People (IAYP).
The programme, which currently operates across 325 schools and education institutions across India, has made a significant impact since its launch there in 1962. It has now reached more than 150,000 students.
During this week’s visit, Edward will meet with young people who are currently undertaking the scheme.
As well as holding meetings with Indian education and business leaders, the Duke will also participate in events celebrating UK-India shared interests in sport and the arts. These will focus on how these can support youth development.
The current visit marks the first royal visit to India in five years. The King, who was then the Prince of Wales, visited the country in November 2019.
Edward, who has been married to his wife Sophie since 1999, last visited India in 2018.
The Duke of Edinburgh recently represented the British royals at the state funeral of former US President Jimmy Carter in Washington DC last month.
He also travelled to Estonia to conduct a host of military engagements.
