Prince Edward and Sophie's Christmas card highlights key change for their family this year

The Duke and Duchess of Edinburgh’s official Christmas card highlights one very important change that came to the pair earlier this year.

The main photograph used, which was shared by Daily Mail’s Richard Eden, was taken back in March when Duchess Sophie and Prince Edward received their new royal titles.

The couple, who were formerly known as the Earl and Countess of Wessex, were officially bestowed the titles of Duke and Duchess of Edinburgh on Prince Edward’s 59th birthday on March 10.

The picture shows the pair beaming as they watched a performance by the Ukrainian choir in the city of Edinburgh.

Duchess Sophie, 58, looked stunning in a teal-coloured Roksanda ‘Adele’ dress. The dress boasted dramatic puffed sleeves and a flattering A-line skirt.

Standing alongside his wife, Edward looked dapper in a navy pinstripe suit.

Inside of the card, the couple signed a special message and wished royal fans a “merry Christmas and a happy new year”.

The card was signed from Edward and Sophie, as well as Louise, 20, and 16-year-old James – the couple’s two children.

The back of the card also included some sweet images that showed off some of the amazing work that the couple completed in 2023.

The first image showed Edward meeting a Clydesdale horse in Garvagh, Northern Ireland.

Meanwhile Sophie was pictured with a puppy when she took part in a puppy class at the Guide Dogs for the Blind Association Training Centre in Reading earlier this year.

The card was also signed with their ES monogram.

Earlier this month, the Prince and Princess of Wales shared their own family Christmas card.

The black-and-white picture showed the couple with their three children, Prince George, 10, Princess Charlotte, eight, and Prince Louis, five.

The sweet image was taken by portrait photographer, Josh Shinner.
