Anti-monarchy campaign group, Republic, has said it has contacted lawyers to consider private prosecution against Prince Andrew after allegations of sexual assault, corruption and misconduct in public office came to light.

Republic, a pressure group in favour of abolishing the monarchy, has said it has taken the “unprecedented step” of approaching a law firm to investigate the allegations and initiate a private prosecution, if appropriate.

This latest update follows reports that Prince Andrew will be summoned to give evidence about his links to paedophile financier, Jeffrey Epstein, in front of a US committee.
