Prime Video to remove Simon Pegg comedy that fans watch 'over and over again'

Simon Pegg’s ‘quintessentially British’ laugh riot, Shaun of the Dead, is on its last legs at Amazon Prime as the platform plans to axe it from their offerings this month.

Released back in 2004, Shaun of the Dead quickly shambled its way into the hearts of cinephiles, earning a cult status among movie buffs.

The film spins the yarn of an ordinary salesman named Shaun, played by Pegg, whose dull life spirals into chaos amidst a zombie outbreak.

While riffing on horror tropes, the flick is at its core a romantic comedy with dashes of drama. Its star-studded lineup also includes Nick Frost (Attack the Block), taking on the role of Ed, Shaun’s best mate.

The brains behind the zom-com romp, Edgar Wright, not only directed but co-scribed the script alongside Pegg, who’s known for his wit in comedies and the subsequent hits Baby Driver and Hot Fuzz, reports Surrey Live.

Shaun of the Dead has garnered an impressive 92 percent on Rotten Tomatoes. Unfortunately for fans, the film will be removed from Prime Video on Tuesday, April 22.

Decades after first hitting the screen, the comedy still receives rave reviews.

On Rotten Tomatoes, a recent review heaps praise on the film: “One of the best British comedy films, hilarious and it gets quite emotional near the end which is surprising for a comedy.”

Another fan mirrors the sentiments, declaring: “A modern-day classic. Perfect to watch over and over again with more than a handful of memorable quotes to chuckle over with chums.”

IMDB users are no less enthusiastic, with comments commending it as a film that ‘has it all.’

“Shaun of the Dead is not only the best zombie flick I’ve seen in a long time, it is simply the best film I’ve seen in a long time, PERIOD! Clever, witty, sweet and nasty and, at times, gory and horrific, SOTD has it all,” one fan enthused.

Another viewer expressed their admiration: “I can’t even begin to emphasise how cool this quintessentially British film is. The amount of time it takes for Shaun and Ed to realise anything’s wrong is priceless.”

A third person posted a glowing review, stating: “I can never tire of watching this film. Each time you watch it you pick up on something new.”

Shaun of the Dead is streaming now on Prime Video.
