Pretty seaside town's public loo with beautiful beach view sells for eye-watering £169k

A block of public toilets on a popular seafront has sold for a staggering £169,000 – more than EIGHT times the asking price.

Dubbed the ‘loo with a view’ the facility in Longrock near Penzance, Cornwall, was described as a “rare and exciting” opportunity when listed by the council in January.

The building, which looks out on St Michael’s Mount in the picturesque Mount’s Bay, has since sold at an online auction that ended this week – fetching £169,000.

It was originally listed with an asking price of just £20,000.

At the time, senior auction appraiser Katie Semmens said: “This is a rare and exciting opportunity to acquire this freehold detached former block of public conveniences with land to either side.”

“Located in a truly spectacular position on the seafront, it boasts stunning views towards St Michael’s Mount and Mount’s Bay.”

“Occasionally these type of properties come to auction although rarely in this type of location. ‘They may offer a variety of future uses, all subject to all necessary consents.”

The freehold detached former block of public conveniences comes with 0.12 acres of land.

It’s believed to be the most expensive toilet sold in Cornwall. In 2018, a former toilet block in Newlyn with a sea view sold for £73k – nearly five times the asking price whilst in 2015, a former toilet block in Charlestown went for £115K.
