‘Prettiest’ UK beach no one knows about with a huge rockpool | UK | News

One of the ‘prettiest beaches’ in the UK is an ideal place to go in the summer holidays, you’ll feel sand beneath your toes while staring at a stunning blue sea – and it’s dog friendly throughout the seasons.

It’s been described as one of the quietest beaches to visit and is nestled between other gorgeous beaches, so the general area is able to ‘soak up any number of visitors’ so some spots remain quieter even in peak season.

Pristine golden sand, perfect for children and adults alike awaits you at one of the Gower Peninsula‘s most stunning bays, located on the south coast of Wales.

Just a 45 minute drive from the city of Swansea, the moon-shaped Blue Pool Bay sits between two other stunning beaches, Rhossili and Broughton. There’s also a massive rock pool in the bay which you can get into at high tide, giving this little beach a unique attraction for visitors.

Blogger, Oh What A Knight, described the area online: “The main feature and attraction of the bay is a large natural circular rock pool at the western end of the beach.

“At 15ft wide and 8ft deep it’s the perfect natural swimming pool and even deep enough to jump into from the rocks above.”

However, those considering jumping in should be careful as the huge natural rock pool can fill up with sand at times and become ‘shallower than usual’, so checking the depth and the tide conditions is imperative.

The rock pool is situated on the edge of the shore and fills up as the tide comes in, the Blue Pool Bay beach itself is revealed only at low tide.

The Oh What A Knight blog also explained that the beach itself is ‘only accessible around two hours either side of low tide’.

Tide times change daily – so make sure you check the tide times before visiting, however, the beach’s ‘remoteness and lack of access make this one of the quietest beaches on the Peninsula’, the blogger said.

The Beach Guide described the remote cove area: “Blue Pool Bay is one of the Gower Peninsula‘s prettiest bays and also one of the quietest.

“This is thanks to the fact it can only be reached on foot from Broughton just under a mile away.

“It also helps that the little bay lies between the vast expanses of Rhossili and Broughton beaches which can soak up any number of visitors.

“The bay at Blue Pool is like a rocky bite out of the coastline which has been filled by a stretch of pristine golden sand.

“The name of the beach comes from a supersized rock pool (about 15ft across) on the eastern side of the bay.

“The Blue Pool was once said to be bottomless, although this is not the case, it is up to 8 metres deep at high tide.

“This makes it popular for diving / tombstoning – although this is never without risk.

“On occasion the Blue Pool can fill with sand and therefore be much shallower than usual. It is therefore important to check the depth before diving in or tombstoning.”
