It’s always nice to find charming travel spots to visit in the UK.
After all, we have so much around us that’s worth visiting when we really look. One particularly picturesque village, that’s been dubbed the “prettiest in England”, is celebrated for its gorgeous houses and pretty scenery.
It’s so stunning that major films have even been filmed at the Cotswolds spot – perhaps because some of the houses there date way back to the 1600s. In the village, you’ll find the Manor House – a 14th century hotel complete with traditional country house decor.
As well as this, there’s a huge golf course in the area as well as a Michelin-star restaurant. There are also some lovely spots to tuck into some tasty pub food.
Castle Combe is a village and civil parish in Wiltshire, located around five miles north-west of Chippenham and 10 miles north-east of Bath. According to the 2021 census, the parish homes a population of around just 356.
Often dubbed “the prettiest village in England,” Castle Combe has been a long-standing popular filming location. It’s featured in major movies such as Doctor Dolittle, Stardust, War Horse and The Wolf Man.
As well as this, the village has also been used to film various TV series including Robin Hood, Poirot and Doctor Thorne. Not to mention, the village was also used for filming the Apple TV+ series Slow Horses.
For those Downton Abbey fans out there, you’ll be delighted to know the area was also used to film some village scenes in the show. There are various ways you may have seen the gorgeous area on the big screen.
Since a video of the village was posted on TikTok by thegingerwanderlust, it’s gone viral. Over 50,000 people have viewed the clip showing off the area, and dozens of people commented to share their thoughts too.
One person said: “I love Castle Combe. I did a triathlon there many years ago.”
Another added: “Been there. Remember asking a local about the sign that said they won first place for the nicest village in England.”
A third replied: “Beautiful. The Cotswolds are on my UK bucket list.”
Meanwhile, a fourth also commented: “I’ve been there. So lovely.” One more chimed in with: “Wish we still made buildings with beauty and character.”
