Poundland issued a recall over a clothing item for children due to a “risk of choking,” with shoppers who bought one urged to stop using it immediately. The product is the Bbe Frotte Blue Cap made by Pepco, described as a “pale blue cap with a button on the top.”
The UK’s Office for Product Safety and Standards said in a notice informing Britons of the recall: “The product presents a risk of choking as the button on the cap can detach. A young child may put the small part in their mouth and choke.
“The product does not meet the requirements of the General Product Safety Regulations 2005.”
As a corrective action, the product has been “recalled from end users by Poundland”, the watchdog said.
The high street chain put out an “Important Safety Warning” to inform customers, listing the product information and offering guidance to shoppers.
“Poundland is enacting a voluntary recall of BB FROTTE CAP BLUE due to button coming away, potential choking hazard,” the notice reads, in part.
“If you have bought the above product, do not use it. Instead, return it to a Poundland Store for a full refund (no proof of purchase required).”
It concludes: “We sincerely apologise for any inconvenience caused. However, the safety and confidence of our consumers and the quality of our products is at the heart of everything we do.”
