A popular butter product has been urgently recalled over choking hazard fears.
The Food Standards Agency has warned that Daylesford Organic’s Cacao Double Nut Butter is unsafe for consumption due to the potential presence of metal ball bearings. The agency has informed that Daylesford Organic, located in Chipping Norton, Oxfordshire, has pulled specific batches of the product from shelves.
The company has alerted its customers with a recall notice regarding the Cacao Double Nut Butter, which is sold in 230g pots and has an expiry date of February 2027. Daylesford Organic is also known for its upmarket farm shop, where some items can cost you more than a restaurant meal.
The Food Standards Agency advises consumers: “If you have bought the above product do not eat it. Instead, return it to the store from where it was bought for a full refund.”
Issued on Wednesday, Daylesford Organic’s recall notice highlights concerns over a “physical contamination risk” and asks customers to verify whether they have purchased any items from the implicated batches.
In their urgent communication, Daylesford Organic stated: “This product may contain metal ball bearings, which present a choking hazard and makes it unsafe to eat,” The alert has been disseminated online, accompanied by guidance from the Food Standards Agency.
The Food Standards Agency explains: “If there is a problem with a food product that means it should not be sold, then it might be ‘withdrawn’ (taken off the shelves) or ‘recalled’ (when customers are asked to return the product).
“The FSA issues Product Recall Information Notices to let consumers and local authorities know about problems associated with food. In some cases, a ‘Food Alert for Action’ is issued. This provides local authorities with details of specific action to be taken on behalf of consumers.”
