POLL: Should Meghan Markle and Prince Harry end feud with royals? | Royal | News

It’s been a tumultuous few years for Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, especially when it comes to their royal family ties – with the prince reportedly not on speaking terms with his father even after his cancer diagnosis. The couple’s slew of publicity stunts since moving to the US in 2020 appear to have majorly damaged their relationship with King Charles, Queen Camilla, and the Waleses – but that doesn’t mean a reconciliation is completely off the cards. Harry and Meghan are hoping to “trigger a truce” in the long-simmering tension between Montecito and Buckingham Palace, a source recently told the New York Times, if only partly because Harry wants to stay in touch with his family, alongside Meghan’s reported desire to “appear like some sort of royal saviour”.

Harry’s bare-all memoir Spare is thought to be a major stumbling block in any “truce” efforts, however, with his family understandably unhappy about its disclosure of private and intimate exchanges. Prince Harry didn’t see King Charles or Prince William during a recent visit to the UK when he lost an appeal over the level of security he, Meghan and their children would be entitled to while visiting from the US.

Despite other post-Megxit revelations, including the couple’s Oprah interview, Harry recently suggested that the rift with his father was primarily linked to his security battle.

In a BBC interview after the appeal had concluded, he said the king “won’t speak to me because of this security stuff” but admitted that he “would love a reconciliation”.

The Prince added that he now “can’t see a world in which I would bring my wife and children back to the UK”.

While the Duke of Sussex may be shouting from the rafters about his desire to rebuild bridges with his estranged family, his vocal efforts may be having an adverse effect across the pond.

“Charles’ reign is not being overshadowed by the feud, but it is being damaged by it because of the huge amount of publicity,” royal expert Richard Fitzwilliams told Fox News.

“In Harry’s recent interview, he seemed angry and pretty gutted … It would be a serious problem for the Royal Family if he and Meghan launched further attacks.”
