A “weakened” Keir Starmer is preparing to offer Labour MP rebels even more concessions on welfare cuts ahead of tomorrow’s crunch vote, amid fears he could still face an embarrassing defeat.
Despite offering £3 billion-worth of concessions last week, the PM was preparing to offer rebels even more u-turns last night to push the changes through.
Rachel Reeves had initially planned to cut £5 billion from the annual welfare bill, though this has now been slashed to less than £3 billion a year.
According to a Labour source, the Government is still worried it will lose tomorrow’s vote “because many Labour MPs remain unconvinced”.
It comes as a damaged Prime Minister is also facing huge rebellions on everything from the two child benefit cap, the Family Farms Tax, and a Gaza refugee visa scheme.
