PMQs LIVE: Keir Starmer faces brutal grilling as migrant tensions explode | Politics | News

Keir Starmer will return to the Commons today for his first Prime Minister’s Questions showdown for seven weeks, after MPs returned from their summer holidays earlier this week.

The PM returns to parliament amid market chaos about Labour’s tax and spend plans, with the Chancellor expected to announce the date of her second Budget later today. With government borrowing rates soaring to their highest level in 27 years, it’s an obvious topic for Kemi Badenoch to lead with.

Sir Keir could also expect condemnation for his handling of the illegal migrant crisis over the Summer, with small boat crossings surpassing a record high so far this year.

One person who won’t be attending is Nigel Farage, as the Reform leader is in Washington DC preparing to give evidence to Congress about the crisis of free speech in Britain. Sir Keir may also face fire following the arrest of Graham Linehan yesterday for anti-trans tweets.
