Plants won’t turn brown with gardener’s ‘best’ pot solution

A plant expert has explained what happens when leaves turn yellow and brown, and what people can do about it. Caring for a plant may seem simple, but it’s a task fraught with challenges.

It’s essential to understand the specific needs of each species, as not all are the same. Additionally, external problems such as lack of sunlight, watering, or pests can arise.

To keep a plant healthy, it’s not just about paying attention to it. It’s also important to have some knowledge that will allow you to solve any problems that arise.

One of the most common complications occurs when the leaves of a plant turn yellow and brown. At first, you might think it’s normal or related to the current season, but it isn’t.

This is confirmed by plant expert Álvaro Pedrera. He explains why they turn this colour and what it means.

Álvaro Pedrera confirms that if the leaves of your plant turn yellow or brown at the tips, it’s an indicator that something is wrong. In a video posted on his social media, he explains why this happens and what you are doing wrong.

“90% of indoor plants that die is due to overwatering,” he assures. In this regard, the professional indicates that “the roots rot, and the leaves turn yellow and brown.”

He warns: “The plant is at risk of dying. Álvaro comments that getting them to be healthy again “is difficult, but not impossible.” He details five steps you can follow to achieve this.

The five steps to recover a plant with rotten roots:

1. Remove the root ball from the pot and let it dry for a day.

2. Remove all the old soil.

3. If you see rotten roots (when they are black or dry), you need to carefully trim off any that are bad.

4. Repot it with new soil, but make sure it’s the right one for your plant.

5. Wait four or five days without watering, and when you do it again, greatly reduce the amount and frequency of watering.

Finally, the plant expert advises writing it down on a calendar to keep track of the days.
