Piers Morgan has slammed Prince Harry today on ITV’s This Morning for being the “most intrusive person into royal privacy ever”. The broadcaster, 60, joined the show as a guest to talk about the day’s news topics, with one being the declining popularity of the monarchy.
In the discussion, Piers – who has been vocal about his dislike of Harry and his wife Meghan Markle over recent years – said that Harry, 40, is one of the reasons for the monarchy’s popularity declining. He also said that Harry and Meghan have contributed to “bringing the Royal Family to its knees”.
He said: “They (Harry and Meghan) spent five years enriching themselves in California for trashing their family. You can’t get away from that.”
Talking about the fact Harry has been back in the UK this week conducting charitable engagements, Piers said: “My thing is you can’t have your cake and eat it. What he wants to do is cherry pick certain things that make him look good.”
When Ashley James, who frequently appears on the show to discuss current affairs, spoke about Harry’s good endeavours and the fact he quit the UK as a result of too much intrusion into his personal life, Piers argued back: “The most intrusive person into royal privacy ever has been Prince Harry – with his book and with his Netflix series.”
This was a reference to Harry’s memoir Spare, published in 2023, and the Netflix docuseries Harry and Meghan, both of which contained serious and damaging allegations about the Royal Family.
Piers also said that he hopes Harry got on his “knees” to ask for his forgiveness from King Charles yesterday during the pair’s private tea at Clarence House.
The meeting was the first time father-and-son had seen each other since February 2024.
Piers’ comments about Prince Harry on This Morning on Thursday are not the first time he has shared his dislike for the Duke of Sussex and his wife Meghan Markle, 44, since the pair quit royal life in 2020.
In 2021, Piers left his role as co-host on ITV’s Good Morning Britain programme after he received thousands of complaints when he said he “didn’t believe a word” Meghan said about her mental health in an interview with Oprah Winfrey.
He has remained vocal about his dislike for the couple since, airing such views on his Youtube show Piers Morgan Uncensored.
