Phil Mickelson launched a rant about ‘illegals committing crimes’ in response to a social media post by New York congressman Dan Goldman. The veteran golfer is a staunch supporter of Donald Trump and is rarely afraid to share his political views online. His latest outburst came after Goldman urged the New York Police Department to intervene when federal agents engage in unlawful conduct.
Taking to X (formerly Twitter), the Democratic politician wrote: “No one is above the law — not ICE, not CBP, and not Donald Trump. Federal agents who assault or detain New Yorkers without legal authority must be held accountable and the NYPD must protect our neighbors if the federal government refuses to.”
In response, Mickelson said: “This is amazing. You can threaten to arrest federal officers, ignore victim’s needs, but illegals committing crimes are free to go. You don’t even see the problem here. THATS THE PROBLEM!!”
Mickelson’s views were challenged by several other users, with the 55-year-old accused of representing ‘one side of a political agenda’ and ‘refusing to see both sides’ of the debate.
When he was asked for his thoughts on people being illegally detained by federal agents, Mickelson replied: “Illegally is how they entered the country not their detainment.”
Mickelson also expressed support for Daniel Penny, a white army veteran who was acquitted of homicide for putting an unarmed black homeless man in a fatal chokehold on the New York subway.
He added: “And a hero like Daniel Penny who saved lives is prosecuted. I can’t even take you serious.”
It comes just days after Mickelson pleaded with Trump to ‘save’ the city of San Francisco after he threatened to send National Guard troops into the region, citing high levels of crime.
The golfer responded to a post by California governor Gavin Newsom, who said that ‘nobody wants’ federal troops in San Francisco, by commenting: “This isn’t true at all. We are begging for him to come save this former great city (and more).”
Mickelson was also unimpressed by the recent No Kings protests against Trump, with millions of Americans taking to the streets to voice their concerns about the current administration.
“On this special day as we all gather to fight against blanket auto pen pardons and executive orders, lawlessness, and stealing citizen’s resources for illegal non citizens, I believe it has worked,” wrote Mickelson, referring to criticisms of the Biden administration.
He made it clear that he preferred last month’s gatherings that honoured Charlie Kirk, who was fatally shot at an event in Utah.
Responding to a video of a gathering to celebrate Kirk, Mickelson posted: “With all these people no one is lying in streets blocking traffic, no violence, no fires or looting. Just a peaceful gathering to honour a special man.”
