PGA Tour Champions player Matt Gogel has been suspended for six months for placing bets on PGA Tour events.

Gogel, 55, released a statement claiming he unknowingly placed “small recreational wagers on golf” in 2024 and 2025.

“I want to be clear that these wagers were not placed on regular PGA Tour events, PGA Tour Champions events or any tournament in which I participated,” Gogel said in a statement released by the PGA Tour.

“I would never knowingly violate the integrity of the game of golf. I made an honest mistake and I look forward to playing in 2027 on the PGA Tour Champions.”

The PGA Tour claimed that Gogel did not place any bets on tournaments in which he was a participant, but he still violated the outfit’s integrity program by wagering on PGA-sanctioned events.

The Tour also noted that Gogel has cooperated throughout the entire process.

Gogel’s suspension began Sunday and will run through Feb. 22, 2027.

It includes all Tour-sanctioned events.

Gogel, whose lone win on the PGA Tour came back in 2002 at the Pebble Beach Pro-Am, was a longtime golf commentator on The Golf Channel and CBS Sports.

He left broadcasting after turning 50 so he could join the PGA Tour Champions, which is the PGA’s senior professional circuit.

The Colorado native finished 30th at last weekend’s Rogers Charity Classic.

Gogel finished T2 at last month’s ISPS Handa Senior Open, which is one of the majors on the senior circuit.

He currently sits in 20th-place in the Charles Schwab Cup points race and has earned more than $760,000 this season.
