Netflix has just revealed exciting details about a brand new period drama that Bridgerton enthusiasts ought to be putting on their must-watch list.
This historical drama draws from actual events and chronicles the experiences of Sophie and Axel von Fersen – a Swedish countess and her sibling.
The production features Alva Bratt and Christian Fandango in the principal roles, and has been characterised as a “romantic drama”.
Called The Von Fersens, it explores the “glamorous and tumultuous” experiences of the siblings who were considered the social media stars of their era.
Located in 18th-century Stockholm, production commenced this September.
The official description states: “The Von Fersens is a grand, modern, fast-paced and romantic drama film.
“Siblings Axel and Sophie grew up as the ultimate it-duo of the 18th century, the influencers of their time – but suddenly, the family is cancelled by King Gustav III.
“When their status is stripped away, they fight to protect their family’s future – and discover that love might be the key to saving it.”
Whilst an official launch date remains unconfirmed, devotees of programmes like Bridgerton are already voicing their enthusiasm.
Posting on Reddit, SugarplumSparrow declared: “I’m so excited! ! ! We know a lot of things about the goings on in the Swedish nobility and life at the castle.
“The princess Hedvig Eleonora Charlotta of Holstein-Gottorp was a very prolific writer and keeper of diary, and Sophie von Fersen was one of her ladies in waiting. So they got a lot of good source material to work with.”
Chernaboggles remarked: “This looks fantastic!” Meanwhile, RoniaRobbersDaughter observed: “I welcome a period drama set outside the UK or France. It almost never happens so it’s great news!”.
Netflix Nordic unveiled a first-look image on Instagram, prompting fan elinannnnnnnn to share: “Yes! ! ! Axel von Fersen has deep connections to Finland [and] French queen Marie Antoinette. Looking forward to this one.”
The supporting cast features Alexander Abdallah as King Gustav III, alongside August Wittgenstein, Alex Jubell and Sara Shirpey, plus Jonas Karlsson, Lina Englund and Carl Heine Granat, who portray members of the von Fersen family.
The Von Fersens will air on Netflix
