A victim involved in a terrifying wreck on a busy Southern California freeway had to be helped by rescuers as a vehicle caught in crash was seen engulfed in flames.
The Los Angeles Fire Department was called to the three-car smash-up around 10:57 p.m. Wednesday on the 101 freeway along Interstate 405 near Sherman Oaks. Upon arriving at the scene, responders found all of the passengers involved in the wreck outside their vehicles as as one of the cars burned.
Video from the crash site showed what appeared to be a conscious male being loaded into an ambulance. One person was transported to the hospital, the LAFD said.
A car at the scene was shown covered in flames as small explosions went off and smoke billowed well above the freeway. The LAFD said the fire was later extinguished.
The cause of the crash is unknown, fire officials said. California Highway Police officers also responded.
The freeway was reopened by 11:17 p.m., though debris from the incident continued to cause delays.
