People online have been left confused by a Tescocar park sign that has a striking error.
Take your minds back to the days of studying the Highway Code trying to remember all the signs, rules and road markings – because this sign has been dubbed “unnecessarily confusing.” Learning to drive is no simple task as there are many things to remember, it’s not just about knowing when to brake or how to manoeuvre your car properly.
There is a whole range of signs and symbols that you need to be clued up on as well if you want a chance of passing your theory test. When Reddit users saw a picture of one sign in a Tesco car park, they were quick to point out how bizarre it is.
Posting in the Casual UK subreddit, a user shared a photo of the sign that reads: “No parking at any time” in big, bold writing. Underneath this warning, in a smaller font, is the text: “This car park is controlled by ANPR cameras and/or attendant patrols. A Parking Charge Notice of £70 may be issued in the following circumstances: parking in no parking areas, obstructive parking.”
The user captioned the post: “Kind of defeats the whole point of a car park surely?”. The post has received 555 upvotes and dozens of comments.
One person said: “This sign is unnecessarily confusing. At first glance it would look like the car park is permanently closed and they don’t want anyone parking there ever. Is that right?”
Another user replied: “It appears to be at the end of a row of parking bays, and facing away from them. I’d bet there’s a hatched bay or lines painted at the base of the sign indicating that the sign relates to that specific area.”
A different user claimed: “It’s a bad way of telling you that the sign in the middle of this one (the blue circle containing a P with a cross through it) means you can’t park in those areas at any time.” Another questioned: “Why is there no parking areas in a car park? And why do they need a sign to say not to obstruct others?
“What area is the sign referring to? What area is safe? It literally looks like it’s just saying don’t park in the car park.” Further comments included: “It’s worded rather confusingly though”, “someone made that sign and didn’t think to question the big bold message” and “the sign says no parking in no parking areas and no obstructive parking but yeah it could be clearer.”
Tesco have been approached for comment.
