You might consider yourself quite the laundry expert, knowing just which colours to mix and which detergent works best.
However, have you ever pondered over which section of the detergent drawer is the correct one for each product?
It appears many are unaware that each compartment serves a distinct purpose, leaving them utterly astonished.
But there’s no need to worry; it’s never too late to pick up new tips. A TikTok user named Elle has taken to the platform to shed light on the mystery of the detergent drawer for those still in the dark.
It’s crucial to note that these compartments may vary in appearance or order depending on your washing machine model, so checking the manual is always a good idea.
Elle explains in her TikTok video that the first compartment, typically the largest, is intended for washing powder.
She advises: “Do a cup full or however much you think is enough,” based on the load size.
Liquid detergent can also be used in this section, as it will be dispensed at the start of the wash cycle.
The second compartment is designated for fabric softener, often marked with a line to indicate the maximum fill level. This compartment is smaller because only a modest amount of fabric softener is necessary.
Lastly, the third compartment is for pre-wash treatments, such as stain removers, and is usually the second-largest. To use this, simply add pre-wash detergent to this part of the drawer before initiating the wash cycle.
While the compartments may vary based on your washing machine model, they typically feature symbols to guide you.
A single line indicates the pre-wash compartment, two lines represent the detergent section, and a flower symbolises the softener slot.
The revelation left many people surprised, realising they had been using the compartments incorrectly. One individual confessed: “OMG I’ve been putting my powder in the wrong drawer.”
Another admitted: “I just wing it and hope for the best.” While a third person chimed in with: “Yeah I’ve been doing this all wrong.”
