Peace lilies immediately start drooping if ‘crucial’ task is not followed, warns expert

However, be careful not to overwater them as this can lead to “wilted leaves, root rot and pests”.

Peace lilies don’t usually behave like drama queens unless you forget to water them.

One day your beloved plant looks gorgeous, and the next day you find it flopping over in its pot.

Peace lilies need consistently moist soil, but they don’t like sitting in standing water.

Owners should only be watering when the top 50 percent of the potting mix has completely dried out.

Water thoroughly until it flows out of the drainage hole and discard any excess water. If you water more often than this and the soil is constantly wet, the roots cannot access the nutrients and oxygen in the soil.

Peace lilies are very resilient and can tolerate dry soil for several days. However, alternating between bone-dry and wet soil from ill-timed watering can create stress and cause your plant to have yellow leaves as well as crispy leaf edges.

If the plant gets too dry for too long, the roots start to shrivel and die back. Then, once the plant is thoroughly watered, it cannot take up the moisture properly.

Give your plant a good drink and it should perk up in no time.

The experts claimed that it’s “best” to water them a few times a week with filtered, room temperature water.

Peace lilies are sensitive to chemicals in tap water so using distilled water or rainwater is “optimal”.

Although, if tap water is your only option, let it stand overnight to allow the chemicals to disperse.
