Weeds are a common issue in gardens, and if not removed, they can affect the overall health of the green area. But an expert from Moral Fibres has suggested adding an easily available kitchen item to a mixture of vinegar and salt that will vanish the patio weeds overnight.
According to the gardening experts, adding three teaspoons of washing liquid to vinegar and salt will offer great results in getting rid of the patio weeds. The homemade weed killer “works indiscriminately on all plant life and can turn your soil acidic”. The gardening expert explained: “My main tip is that this homemade weed killer recipe works best on a dry sunny day. I’d suggest applying it at midday, or just before, when the sun is at its peak. It really helps to dry out the weeds.”
However, the expert explained that one may need to rinse off the homemade weed killer solution before the night.
The expert wrote: “This is in case any local wildlife walks over your slabs or paving – such as hedgehogs, foxes, or badgers. Salt and vinegar could be caustic to their paws or cause sickness if ingested.
“Again, rinsing off the solution prevents this from being an issue.
“For larger, more well-established weeds spray the leaves and also pour a good glug of the solution onto the plant. It’s very effective – you should notice the weeds beginning to wilt within an hour.”
1 litre of white vinegar
3 large tablespoons of salt
3 teaspoons of washing-up liquid/dish soap
A spray bottle
Add some salt to the vinegar and stir well until it is well dissolved.
Once the salt is dissolved, add some washing-up liquid and give it a nice stir.
Decant the solution into a spray bottle.
