A gunman opened fire in broad daylight on a main road in Birmingham on Thursday afternoon. Emergency services rushed to the scene on Church Lane in Stechford at around 3.30pm on March 27, where one man had suffered a gunshot injury.
West Midlands Police arrested two men on suspicion of violent disorder, after an incident involving three cars broke out as schools were finishing for the day, sparking panic in the city.
Two men – both in their 20s – were taken to hospital. One suffered a gunshot wound while another suffered a cut, according to police. Patrols have ramped up in the area, while investigating officers at West Midlands Police have appealed for more information from eyewitnesses.
A spokesperson for the force said: “Two men have been arrested after disorder involving weapons in Birmingham yesterday. We were called to Church Lane, Stechford, just before 3.30pm.
“It’s believed the occupants of three cars were involved in a disorder involving weapons, and a firearm was discharged during the incident. The two suspects, aged 21 and 27, were taken to hospital. One suffered a gunshot injury, and the second suffered a laceration. Both have been arrested on suspicion of violent disorder.
“Our investigation continues and we’d appeal for anyone with information, dashcam, mobile phone or other footage to get in touch. We understand the concern that this incident has caused. There will be increased patrols to reassure our communities in the coming days, and we are working with our partners to reassure our wider community.”
