Lots of people paint their homes; after all, every now and then rooms need touching up and nothing helps them to look fresh more than a lick of paint. Even though it’s a job that needs to be done, completing the task isn’t always easy as it’s lengthy, tiresome and can be super hard to get right.
Not to mention, the cleaning up afterwards is never fun either, as you have to rid all the pesky splashes and try and clean your brushes as best as you can. The only problem is, they can often dry quickly and turn hard, which is a problem nobody wants to deal with.
Lucily for DIY fans, a hack has recently been shared to help people out. It turns out, keeping paint brushes and rollers clean isn’t as tough as you think.
A trick was recently shared by cleaning guru, Georgia, known as cleanwithgeorgiia on TikTok, who often shares handy hints and tricks. Accoridng to her, you just need a simple staple item from your kitchen to get the job done.
Georgia said it’s a simple hack everyone should know, and it can make a big difference to your brushes and rollers. It turns out, wrapping your brushes in cling film can prevent them from toughening up.
Georgia explained there are three top tips people need to know when it comes to painting. Firstly, she said you can use primer-sealer to cover up any stains on ceilings and walls.
When you use a roller, she said you should also cover the tray so you can use it again and again. In the clip, she covers hers with a carrier bag, and then puts the paint on top, so she doesn’t stain the actual tray.
Finally, she says you can prevent your rollers and brushes from hardening by wrapping them with cling film. People admitted the hacks were super useful, and they think they’ll make a big difference to their painting experiences.
Paintbrushes often turn hard when paint dries on the bristles, which can happen if brushes are not cleaned thoroughly after use. Failing to clean them enables paint to harden near the base of the bristles or inside the ferrule.
Failing to dry them properly, or storing them incorrectly, can also trap paint particles that harden as they dry. These mistakes can cause a bit of a problem when you go to use your brushes again.
Why should I use cling film?
Wrapping paintbrushes in cling film is a really good way to keep them from drying out when you’re having short breaks from painting. It can help to save you time when cleaning them.
To use the trick, simply remove any excess paint, tightly wrap the brush head with cling film and seal the edges. You can use masking tape to seal it for storage.
It’s important to remove as much paint as possible before you do this. When done, keep the brush wrapped in a dry place until you are ready to continue painting.
When you’re ready to resume, simply unwrap the brush and the bristles should still be supple and ready to use. It’s as easy as that to pull off the hack.
If you don’t have cling film, you could also use an airtight plastic bag instead. If you’re looking for longer-term storage, you can also buy special containers designed to keep brushes wet.
