Nobody likes cleaning the oven, but this kitchen appliance can become covered in grease and oil, which can be tricky to tackle if they build up.
Ovens are notoriously difficult to clean, as grease and food splatters can harden the surface after being baked into it while cooking.
Even if you scrub these stains for ages, they are unlikely to come off, but there is no need to be concerned as you can quickly wipe them away if you use one natural product.
Angelin, an expert from Bond Cleaning in Sunshine Coast has shared that soda crystals are one of the best items to clean an oven with.
She said: “Green cleaning is much more than white vinegar, baking soda, or castile soap. Homeowners can upgrade their DIY cleaning caddy by adding safe and super-effective soda crystals or washing soda. This is a great alternative to store-bought cleaning products.”
Soda crystals are alkaline, which means they will soften and lift acidic stains such as grease, oil and burn marks in the oven.
There will be no need for heavy scrubbing, as soda crystals break down oven grime quickly. All you will have to do is wipe the stains away.
This is a time-saving way to clean your oven and will cost you less. Soda crystals, which cost £2, can be bought at Asda, Sainsbury’s, or Tesco.
How to use soda crystals to degrease your oven.
To begin, remove any racks of trays in the oven and place them in a basin filled with hot, soapy water and soda crystals.
Angelin said: “Submerge your oven grills in a large container filled with hot water and 250g of soda crystals.
“Leave it for a few minutes to dislodge the gunk. After that, scrub away the residue with a brush or a sponge”
Then, pour soda crystals on your oven door or at the bottom of your oven and mix just enough water for it to form a thick paste.
Let the solution sit for at least 20 minutes to an hour. If the grime is particularly bad, then leave it overnight.
Once the time is up, use a scrubbing brush or sponge to wipe away the loosened grease.
Rinse the oven surfaces with clean cold water and a damp cloth to remove the residue. Take care to avoid the heating element when cleaning your oven.
Make sure your oven is fully dry before using it again, and put your oven racks back. You should now have a sparkling clean oven without having to scrub it or use harsh chemicals.
