Ovens are one of the toughest things to clean in a home, as splatters and spills become a sticky charred layer that is difficult to remove even if you scrub them for ages. Most oven stains are made up of grease, which is an oily substance that does not mix with water, so most typical cleaning products will be far too weak to deal with this greasy mess.
However, Sophie Franklin, an expert from Maid2Match, has shared there is a quick and easy way to remove hard grease stains, as all you need is a dishwasher tablet. Sophie said: “Dishwasher tablets are typically made of concentrated dishwasher detergent or similar cleaning ingredients. The built-in cleaning properties remove grease and food grime from your dishes – so they should be able to cut through grease, baked-on food, and other residue in your oven.”
Dishwasher tablets contain alkaline ingredients that have been designed to break down food stains on plates, but will also work to break down fats and oil stains in an oven.
Grease, oil and any fatty substance are acidic, and the alkaline compounds in a dishwasher tablet will break it down into a soapy substance that will make it very easy to wipe away.
Dishwasher tablets also contain surfactants, which help break down grease into a thin layer that can be easily rinsed away and the tablet’s gritty texture will also dislodge baked-on stains.
If you have been struggling to clean a oven then using a dishwasher tablet is a cheap way to deal with hard burned stains without having to spend ages scrubbing or spending money on harsh chemical cleaners.
How to clean a oven using a dishwasher tablet
To begin, put on a pair of gloves and fill a small bowl with warm water. Make sure to use a solid dishwasher tablet and not a gel one, otherwise it will dissolve when you try to clean with it.
Then, dip a little of the dishwasher tablet into the water to dampen it, and then place it flat against a grease stain.
Begin to scrub the stain in a circular motion, but do not put too much pressure on the tablet otherwise it can crumble. If the tablet feels dry, dip it in the warm water again.
Any stains should quickly begin to break down and be easy to wipe away. Once you have got rid of the stains, rinse the oven down with a wet cloth and then use another clean cloth to dry it.
Your oven should now be completely clean and stain-free using only a simple item you likely already had laying about your home.
