Fans of Julia Roberts will be delighted to discover her Academy Award-winning performance is now available to stream on Prime Video.
The renowned actress secured Oscar nominations for Steel Magnolias and Pretty Woman in the 1990s, but it was Erin Brockovich that delivered her the Best Lead Actress prize.
Originally released in 2000, the courtroom thriller features Roberts as single parent, Erin.
After landing a job as a legal aide, she tackles the case of a Californian energy company accused of contaminating a city’s water supply.
The inspiring film is based on the real story of American woman Erin Brockovich, who initiated the legal case in 1993, reports the Mirror.
Susannah Grant penned the screenplay, and acclaimed director Steven Soderbergh helmed the project. Both received Oscar nods for Best Original Screenplay and Best Director, respectively.
The movie additionally secured recognition in the Best Supporting Actor section for Albert Finney, who portrayed Roberts’ boss.
Furthermore, Rotten Tomatoes reviewers gave the millennium drama an 85% rating, while general audiences gave it an 81% score.
The critics’ verdict states: “Taking full advantage of Julia Roberts’s considerable talent and appeal, Erin Brockovich overcomes a few character and plot issues to deliver a smart, thoughtful, and funny legal drama.”
Meanwhile, one viewer on the site simply wrote: “Outstanding and engaging!”
On IMDb, one viewer lauded: “It has everything, ranging from real-life documentary through love story via comedy to tragedy. And it is so lovingly done, and played so well. And it also has a wonderful soundtrack.”
