This moving drama film released in 2021 has been hailed as ‘outstanding’ by reviewers and it’s been awarded a 100% rating on , Rotten Tomatoes and it’s available to stream on two platforms, not including Netflix.

The film, set in Northern Ireland, tells the story of a father and son as the father is dying from cancer he tries to find a new family for his son.

The film’s synopsis reads: “When John, a thirty-four-year-old window cleaner, is given only a few months to live, he attempts to find a new, perfect family for his three-year-old son, determined to shield him from the terrible reality of the situation.”

Nowhere Special was written, directed and produced by Uberto Pasolini. It stars James Norton alongside his on screen son Daniel Lamont.

It was initially premiered at Venice Film Festival in 2020 and then released in the UK in 2021, only opening to American theatres last year.

A solid part of the 100 club on Rotten Tomatoes, and sitting comfortably at the 20th spot, the film has been met with a positive reception.

Nowhere Special’s critic consensus reads: “Focusing pragmatically on the ordinary human moments that bind us, Nowhere Special leads us somewhere devastating yet surprisingly uplifting.”

The film was met with positive reviews and critical acclaim.

Writing in their review on RogerEbert.com, Nell Minow said: “There are so many ways to go wrong with this story, which we are told was inspired by an unidentified real father and son.

“Writer/director Uberto Pasolini does not let that happen, relying on the most ordinary details to take on greater and greater weight.”

Variety said: “Nowhere Special is the kind of confident, understated film that doesn’t need to pound the audience with its sentiments in order to make us feel alive and human in front of it.”

One reviewer on Rotten Tomatoes described the film as “outstanding”, while another said: “A must watch. It’s beautiful.”

Nowhere Special is available to stream on Amazon Prime and BBC iPlayer.
